Hey fellow vanlifers! πβ¨
Guess who swapped the winter blues for sunshine and sandy beaches? Yep, itβs usβRoman and Ioana, along with our trusty van, Leni. Buckle up as we share our winter escapade on the stunning island of Lanzarote!
Tucked away in the Atlantic, Lanzarote is the cool kid of the Canary Islands. Picture this: lunar landscapes, sun-soaked beaches, and a laid-back Spanish vibe. It’s the fourth-largest in the bunch and packs a punch with its volcanic charm. Whether you’re eyeing the surreal Timanfaya Park, chilling at Papagayo’s beaches, or soaking up the winter buzz in town, Lanzarote’s got your back. This island is all about easy-breezy exploration and surprises at every turn. Ready for a laid-back adventure? Welcome to Lanzarote! πποΈ
We kicked off our journey with a 28-hour ferry ride from Huelva to Arrecife with the Armas ferry company. Pro tip: When traveling with a van and trailer, make sure to clarify the details in advance. We faced a hiccup because our trailer wasnβt mentioned on the ticket, but after a bit of a scramble, we were the last ones on board and ready for our Lanzarote adventure.
The ferry food, however, was not a highlight. Frozen meals that were less than tasty. Lesson learned: Pack some snacks to keep your taste buds happy during the journey.
As we landed in Arrecife, we were welcomed by 22 degrees Celsius and sunshine β quite the upgrade from winter on the mainland! Christmas by the beach, in shorts and t-shirts, with a refreshing swim in the oceanβnow thatβs a holiday vibe we can get behind.
While the island lacks traditional campgrounds, Lanzarote is a vanliferβs dream with its remote spots perfect for peaceful wild camping. And numerous service spots across the island make refilling fresh water and dumping grey water a breeze, ensuring a smooth and comfortable journey for those on the road. So, fellow adventurers, if youβre considering a winter vanlife getaway, Lanzarote should be high on your list.
Here are some highlights and spots you shouldnβt miss.
